I'm staring at this little blank box wondering why in the world I should write a mini-biography of myself. There's a lot to put in there for an average guy, so I guess that's a reason I won't get into too many details. I prefer to tell those tales in person. But, here's the highlights...
I got lucky and got to grow up in a small town. It was a little too backwoodsy sometimes, but overall it was a good way to grow up. I had a good solid group of friends growing up and that's where I got my geekiness I guess. Comics, games, and movies became the hot topics of my life and have been ever since.
I moved to Nashville and went to school at Lipscomb. Got my art degreee and whole new solid group of friends. Managed to work in just about every comci shop in Nashville during that time and caught the bug myself. That was when the path lead to Savannah.
I moved to Savannah, GA chasing the dream of independence and a passion for what I love. I opened The Empire on September 1, 2001. 10 days later, an event that would give my life a new direction happened, but we're not to that part of the story just yet. No, Savannah gave me a lot more than just a stop-off in life. Once again, I found a solid group of friends who supported me through the slow death of a dream. I get asked alot if I regret Savannah because of the huge loss. I look back at that last day when my friends and customers came by to help me pack and say good-bye and I smile and say, "Not one bit."
So, the wheel turned around and I found myself back home in Centerville. It was still a bit too backwoodsy sometimes so I split my time between Centerville and Nashville where I caught up with my old friends from college. I found a new calling working for the school system in the technology department and realized I was really good with computers. So I went back to school for a second bachelor's degree. When they asked me what I wanted to study I looked over the curriculum. Information Security - protecting sensitive information. Memories of 9/11, superheroes, and the pain of losing the store came back. I saw a reason to try to do something good and make something out of a the worst moment of my life.
A year later, I found another reason to make something of my life. At a Super Bowl party, I met the girl of my dreams who had always been there. Her name was Rachel and she was a friend of the family's. I had known her by acquaintence through my brother and aunt for years, but never stopped to talk to her and get to know her. If only I had! We clicked instantly and never once saw a single play of that Super Bowl. She lived in Nashville and I was spending most of my time in Nashville with friends and school already. I quickly realized it was time to move again.
So, here I am in Nashville once again! There are days that I get dressed in nice clothes for work, make my commute downtown to sit in meetings, and and think about how different it is from walking down Bull St. in shorts and a Keep Comics Alive shirt. But,I don't regret the change and I don't regret the past. Plus, I still work over a sandwich shop! It's life and it's been a pretty good one so far.
